hi there! below i've provided steps try out. note can substitute in other textures, , tweak settings accordingly

first, go layer > new fill layer > pattern, , click "ok" when new layer dialog box pops up. creating pattern fill layer make easier change texture later if decide use one.

in pattern fill dialog box, go ahead , pick texture clicking on texture swatch. add new textures, click on small settings icon in upper right hand corner of texture swatch gallery. in tutorial, i'm using gray granite texture in grayscale paper collection comes installed in photoshop cs6. can use whatever texture you'd

with pattern fill layer selected, change layer blend mode multiply. allow plan drawing show through under texture.

you can adjust opacity of layer using the opacity slider in layers panel. make texture lighter , more subtle.

if want "faded" effect in original image, can apply layer mask texture. allow paint away selective parts of texture, without permanently erasing it. so, first click on icon highlighted below add layer mask texture layer.

now, making sure have layer mask selected, grab brush tool , select large, soft brush. change brush color black (#000000), , start painting away areas don't want texture. if want add texture in, switch brush color white (#ffffff).

the great thing using layer mask hide or reveal parts of texture it's non-destructive, meaning doesn't permanantly effect texture layer. if ever want bring full texture layer, right click on layer mask.
