in joomla 2.5, when ran search, if went article appeared in search results , didn't have menu item associated or category itemid on page missing/set 0.
in joomla 3.3, when run search, if go article appeared in search results doesn't have menu item associated or category itemid set default menu item/home page.
while in theory think 3.3 way of handling better, causes issues. home page, @ least on our sites, custom pages. instead of getting sort of "default" set of modules, etc, user gets page looks home page has content of article search.
i'm hoping find out others do, , make sure best practices correct.
the solution have make sure every category has menu item associated it, if isn't in visible menu, , way itemid menu items applied each article.

that last part simple do. add component setting , edit router use it. see mod_finder field set_itemid.
