Back in business: update old 2.5 or fresh install? - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support
hi there
i small business owner little website creation experience (created , ran myself website joomla years ago).
i installed joomla 2.5 couple of years ago , planning build website. unfortunately had pause project.
i ready resume project, in doubt , have couple of questions:
1) safe update (from 2.5.7 2.5.27)? web hosting provider has warned me forever vulnerabilities in obsolete install.
the site empty yet, default install sample content learning.
maybe better off running fresh install?
2) how can check if security has somehow been compromised?
3) in back-end see update button, it?
4) 2.5.27 best option or should consider start on version 3?
5) in case hire in order me build site (page, menu creation, components install , configuration, template editing, security checks, seo work), suffice make worker admin , pulling privileges once job done? bit uneasy one.
6) xampp: safe run? remember reading security risks kinda freaked me out

1. since website never used productively, suggest removing 2.5.x , install 3.3.6
2. if delete , go 3.3.6, don't concerned old compromises
3. same suggestion point 2
4. start on 3.3.6
5. once satisfied job can change ftp , joomla passwords. optionally can create tech service accounts ftp , joomla super admin can monitor when used based on log reports.
6. xampp safe far know. use daily.
