Thread: RAID 1 Array Help

hey forum,

i'm new user here , pretty new ubuntu administration, learning. here's got: have production backup server running 9.10 1tb raid 1 array running fine. have been asked add 2tb raid 1 array server storage.

i'm experimenting sandbox hardware, 11.04 server, silicon image sil3124 sata i/ii pci-x32/64 bit host controller card, , 4 sata drives: 1 - 500gb, 1 -250gb , 2 - 2tb.
time around used card setup 2 raid1 arrays: 1 - 200gb 2gb swap , 1 - 2tb. being new , i'm not sure if seeing normal. i've been poking around lot on web , started seeing things fake-raid , such.

can give pointers on best way go install?
mean experience should i:
use controller card setup arrays, or best use ubuntu's partitioner?

kind of issues have run in using controller card?

in advance constructive input.
