Thread: Installation from USB-Computer turns off -

hi all,

have old desktop. 378 mbram, celeron 2.4ghz. got new ide hard disk today. dont have cdrom on it. have usb drives. partitioned through winxp using easeus partition manager , created ext2 partion , swap partition (also ext2).

made bootable usb 10.04 linux laptop through startup disk creator. changed bios of desktop boot usb hdd , booted desktop. real problem started here. first screen of ubuntu appeared , of sudden system got turned off itself. tried many times, same thing happens again , again either @ first screen or second screen showing ubuntu title. not going further or computer turns off itself.

tried changing usb ports. no use.

if remove usb , boot, system boots win xp.

tried deleting partitions , booted again. system turns off again.

can't understand problem.

please help.

want install ubuntu through usb dual boot winxp , ubuntu.

how solve problem?

can boot other live cd? example dsl or clonezilla or slax? although of them linux based, dsl minimal desktop os , clonezilla meant creating disk/partition images. if don't have xp installation cd, try booting clonezilla live , create backup image of xp partition. in case goes wrong xp too, can restore image.

after that, i'd suggest pull off motherboard of computer, cpu if doubt it. re-seat essential cables/parts necessary boot computer, - cpu, ram, , power cable internally, , mains power cable, vga cable, keyboard , usb drive outside. eliminate chance of other attached device causing trouble.

if problem stays same way, i'll doubt graphics or faulty ram. there may other issues though.

if boots way, i'll doubt other attached devices or connections, including hard drive itself. however, may case of weak power supply, 5v supply, if usb drive hard drive drawring power usb.
