Thread: GRUB will not appear, even after grub-install or boot-repair

dear all,

i've installed ubuntu 11.04 on sony vaio vgn-731wn. once installed, reboot , grub not appear. instead, windows xp appears.

i've been searching , trying make grub work, such running live , on running grub-install /dev/sda in chrooted environment ( mounting dev, dev/pts, sysfs, proc, etc. ), or using boot-repair program, none worked. result same: windows xp loading, , no grub starting. furthermore, when running bootinfoscript get:

=> windows installed in mbr of /dev/sda.

how can make grub work? how can install in mbr?

information of bootinfoscript attached here:

thank

put in ubuntu live cd of 11.04 open terminal , copy , paste these commands.
code:
sudo mount /dev/sda6 /mnt
code:
sudo grub-install --boot-directory=/mnt/boot /dev/sda
code:
sudo umount /mnt
code:
sudo reboot
boot ubuntu and:
code:
sudo update-grub
now should have installed grub mbr , added windows config file ,
menuentry.

#umount not typo.

## you missing boot files in install of sda6, if above not work have install grub files live cd (your install cd using try ubuntu) post 6.
