Thread: Rotate screen with openchrome on VIA CX700/VX700

hello,

have installed xubuntu 11.04 on small form-factor pc. docs claim using via cx700/vx700 chipset graphics.

have connected small 6.5" lcd native resolution of 640x480 (dm-65gs/tr).

install went smoothly. have set things autologin graphical desktop , works fine. desktop bit cramped on resolution not ubuntus fault...

inherited machine , screen surplus , want set tiny screen fun project require mounting screen in portrait mode , hoping rotate desktop 90 degrees. can't seem manage that.

ui display settings on desktop not allow me change orientation, button says "normal" , has no other options. out.

cannot change orientation xrandr:

code:
#xrandr --output default --rotate left xrandr: output default cannot use rotation "left" reflection "none"
i have created file in /usr/share/x11/xorg.conf.d specifiy configuration , set rotate-option:

code:
section "device" .. option "rotate" "cw" .. driver "openchrome" endsection
(the complete file in archive attached posting xorg.log of setup starting up)

rotate startup of system fails. here's happens:

imagine portrait-mode display, display taller wide. on top can see left part of graphical login while there black area on bottom. third of screen seems outside of right edge of portrait-display. login dialog centered appears offset right. shutdown-button on bottom right not displayed.

display indeed rotated want can read text , everthing appears upright. mouse works should.

overall effect of image still being rendered 640wide x 480high , rotated , displayed.

need display 480wide x 640high.

in addition autologin fails , cannot login manually well. returns me broken login screen.

reading far, hope making sense. can provide more details on request , looking forward try may suggest.

ciao, mm
