Thread: Ubuntu Install: Unusual Situation

hi everyone!

bought asus eee pc 1201t yesterday has amd 64 dual core mv40 architecture , came compulsorily win 7 starter. wanted dual boot ubuntu 10.4.3. these events of yesterday:

1) computer had large d: in installed ubuntu 10.4.3 lts i386 (by mistake, out of habit, because had intel architecture in earlier laptop) outside of win 7. went fine , satisfied. grub boot loader started showing on startup expected.

2) win 7 got corrupted or after used internet , wanted use in-built win vista recovery partition save it. recovery option showed boot option in grub. started recovery , erased c: had win 7. unusual happened:

on automatic restart, couldn't see "american megatrends inc" page , came directly grub booter. recovery process not completed.

3) thought, "no problem, can live without windows" , fine. found out amd64 version of ubuntu 10.4 , had real wish install fits architecture better. prepared install disc.

4) because on booting come directly grub, cannot access bios page. don't have opportunity press del invoke bios , can't fresh install.

can somehow solve issue alternate install? if yes, steps?

please help!

as long can grub menu, should able custom-edit 1 of boot entries , make boot live usb way. make boot live cd, more complicated; recommend making live usb. there directions @ http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download.

think button have press edit grub entry letter 'e', i'm not positive. once you're screen can edit boot entry, erase (use control-k delete line) , put in lines need boot live usb. exact parameters depend on situation should able figure them out reading https://help.ubuntu.com/community/grub2 once you've entered everything, press control-x boot. note none of these changes grub entry permanent; forgotten when reboot computer.

way, may not worth trouble because amd64 build of ubuntu doesn't fit architecture better. i386 , amd64 builds work equally on both intel , amd cpus. difference between them i386 supports 32-bit processors (both intel , amd), while amd64 64-bit chips (again, both intel , amd). if have more 4 gigabytes of ram in computer, using amd64 build of ubuntu allow use more memory because i386 kernels can address 4 gigabytes; otherwise, there's no major difference between i386 , amd64 , can use either 1 regardless of whether processor built intel or amd.
