Placing Images (Screen Caps) for Callouts - Best Practice?

illustrator cs6, windows 7

i'm placing screen captures (screen images software) in artwork files add callouts , create illustrations user manual.

the machine i'm capturing on has screen resolution set @ 1920 x 1080 (required software). i'm using snagit , capturing screens, saving files, placing in illustrator. i've been using images minimum 300 dpi , never upsizing in illustrator. still think results better.

in past i've used .jpg export filetype placing illustrator. but, recent reads of postings in community lead me believe practice might flawed.

question: what considered best practice placing images screen capture (or source) in illustrator? file type capture me clearest , adaptable results?

my illustrator file color mode cmyk , other art , callouts supporting screen cap working great.

i'm creating artwork import framemaker , creating pdf online , print.

your file colour mode cmyk screenshots rgb, getting dull colours if embed shots.

it might idea edit shots in photoshop, converting them cmyk , brightening colours as possible.

save (probably) lzw tiff aviod loss of quality.
