Thread: Laptop won't boot after using hard drive as external mamory

i broke screen in laptop(acer aspire 5745:dual booting w7 , ubuntu) while ago, , while waiting replacement come in using hard drive in external bay desktop computer(a full ubuntu machine). replaced screen , hard drive yesterday, booting ubuntu hangs @ black screen. trying load previous kernel version throws error:
code:
error: couldn't read file. error: need load kernel first. press key continue...
and kicks me grub after short second. trying load recovery mode tells me it's loading kernel, hangs , requires hard reset. tried editing commands before booting, , took out "quiet" diagnosis, threw:
code:
loading, please wait... begin: loading essential drivers ... done. begin: running /scripts/init-premount ... done. begin: mounting root file system ... begin: running /scripts/local-top ... done. begin: running /scripts/local-premount ... done. begin: running /scripts/local-bottom ... done. done. begin: running /scripts/init-bottom ... done.
what i'm thinking of doing putting hard drive in bay , loading newest kernel , and init scripts in hand, don't know how that, or if it's right course of action. getting boot again appreciated.
