Table of Contents using a style/section from master page

i in on head think....and set document incorrectly.  can explain at:

 

question 1

i table of contents use 10 section headers appear throughout document.  here how set up:

• in master page, place section header , gave paragraph style.
• then, throughout document used "numbering , section options" start each new section , give section it's unique name.

when went generate table of contents, specified using particular paragraph style used section headings, nothing appears (except title requested overall table of contents).  it's isn't finding sections -- or style (which applied in master page).

 

where did go wrong?

i table of contents not numbered.  how do that?

so, did put section marker special character in frame on master page shows on document pages?

 

what see if @ toc in story editor (edit > edit in story editor)?
