hi, upgraded 11.04 , dovecot installed along postfix. now, users on lan unable log postfix mail (mostly outlook). found change /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf uncomment line "disable_plaintext_auth = yes" , change yes no. did that, restarted postfix , dovecot still doesn't work. in fact did multiple times , pulled out hair between times. missing? want keep simple possible. plaintext authentication fine me... if works. things screwed now. checking configuration dovecot -n yielding lots of errors; , there appeared lots of out-of-place lines in dovecot.conf. don't know how happened seems may have somehow messed royally in trying edit file. thought correct problem reinstalling dovecot. removed dovecot.conf first assuming i'd new/clean copy. didn't happen. dovecot reinstalled new conf file not installed. copied file /usr/share/dovecot. files seems qu...

i have little python script display images writing them temp file, calling eog on temp file, , calling rm on temp file after eog process closes. relevant code looks this: code: os.popen('(eog --new-instance tmp.jpg; rm tmp.jpg)&') the --new-instance flag important; without that, if there eog process, eog call tells pre-existing eog process display tmp.jpg , returns right away. rm executes before pre-existing eog process can open tmp.jpg. pre-existing eog process crashes. unfortunately, don't have complete control on of systems use script on. of them have outdated version of eog installed not support --new-instance, , don't want burn quota space building local copy. there way can launch eog in way prevents detecting if there other instances? or there reliable strategy displaying images in sophisticated viewer (ie, supports zooming, panning, etc.) won't clutter directory temp files? ...
