Thread: Unity launcher and multiple monitors

so, i've searched solutions, nothing i've found has worked me. use dell xps laptop ubuntu 11.04, , i'm having hard time getting unity launcher (the mac-like dock, thingy) show on external monitor place left of laptop monitor. have them arranged in monitors preferences, , showed on left hand side 1 time, never again.

have tried following no success:

• this 1 did absolutely nothing.

xrandr --output vga-0 --primary

• editing monitors.xml file in home folder great, except monitor not plugged in (as i'm on laptop). when it's in, things peachy. when it's not, display totally jacked up.

so, how can unity launcher show up on external monitor when it's plugged in, , on laptop monitor when it's not?
