Thread: Booting tar backup from another hard disk


hi,

used create backups using tar on root directory /
hdd broke down, , bought one, created bootable ext3 partition , extracted backup on it.

unfortunately there seems more linux magic necessary make work.

see blinking _ when trying boot it.


reinstalled grub on partition , able grub prompt.
command
configfile (hd0,1)/boot/grub/grub.cfg
tells me there s.th wrong config file.

(for sure, because whole device id stuff doesn't match new devices id ect)

it's caused different uuid of new root partition. easiest way should changing same was, otherwise have edit more files

previous uuid of old drive grub.cfg, change uuid of new drive this:
