Thread: apt-get build-dep X not matching apt-get install -s X

sudo apt-get build-dep xxxx

says :

e: unable find source package xxxx

frustratingly,

sudo apt-get install -s xxxx

says wants install many necessary packages
local cache stale ? if how refresh build-dep work correctly ?
essentially, want install necessary packages, without installing package x
have seen across several different packages, package : phatch
getting same symptom when using different mirrors
ubuntu oneiric beta 1

sudo apt-get update

has no impact

apt-cache search x

correctly find package x ---- how can make build-dep see same package x ?
