Thread: talkin' dual boot and virtualization blues
hi all,
have (had?) win7 installation , found myself needing linux work related reasons, dual-boot installed ubuntu on external hdd grub on external mbr , great. boot either os fine, , ubuntu mount windows partitions @ mp3s , other files.
had brilliant idea create virtualbox in ubuntu virtualize existing win7 installation have few windows-specific things running while did of work in ubuntu. found some instructions on how this, lot of old, , i'm not super handy *nix, , virtualbox howto didn't make whole lot of sense me. wound frying win7 bootup process. not terrible, ubuntu still works fine
i'm @ bit of crossroads. wouldn't mind having ubuntu primary os, , there plenty of great tutorials virtualizing win7 in ubuntu (just not how virtualize existing win7 installations), wonder:
- is safe leave ubuntu installed on external hdd? feel should move more stable, internal sata drive.
- if so, should installation cloned, or better reinstall? don't want go through setting svn repositories again...
- regardless of ubuntu winds residing, once virtualize win7 in ubuntu, there way boot directly win7 installation, ever? idea of being able to:
- open win7 window when want in ubuntu
- booting directly win7 when want to
- i know in of mind should away dual-boot, it's done me bad , treated me wrong before, keep coming it.
hope isn't tl;dr. wouldn't blame you.
thanks, , you've given far weren't aware of having given; i've been lurking quite time now.
