need new installation , accessing data on old installation.
query 1:

i've got new thinkpad sl410. intel core2duo t6670 cpu. intel 4 series express chipset gma display. got 4gb ram , 320gb sata hdd. earlier laptop, need dual boot.
i've installed xp pro sp3 on main partition. wanted install ubuntu 10.04 lts 64-bit on other 40 gb partition.
known issues of running 64-bit 10.04 lts on laptop ?? want experience 64-bit 4 gb of ram.
xp install , run, sata has been set "compatbility mode" in bios xp not work ahci mode.
query 2:

older laptop crashed mobo failure. hdd ok. removed it, put usb casing , attached windows machine. able access windows partitions on old hard disk.
same thing possible ubuntu partition ? if make new installation 64-bit (the 8.04 installation 32-bit), can access data on ubuntu partition on old hdd ? there files on desktop , personal folders need access , copy on new installation.
(unfortunately) did not make separate /home partition on old installation.
filesystem ext3.
main query if can access data on old 32-bit 8.04 ubuntu partition , whether possible new 64-bit ubuntu 10.04 lts installation.
have livecd of 7.04 fiesty fawn. initial installation later upgraded 8.04.
