Thread: HELP - HP printer not working

summary:
have hp printer , working hplip. can't print, following error time: "printer error. printer busy, offline, or in error state."
today uninstalled hplip , reinstalled no avail.

long story:
few months ago installed hplip in computer. version exists in ubuntu repositories (3.10.2). wasn't compatible new-ish printer (laserjet professionel m1212nf mfp) , had download newer version hp (3.10.6 or above). installed on old version , worked beautifully, until ubuntu released major (?) update , hplip version downgraded 3.10.2. reinstalled newer version on top of 3.10.2 several times , worked ok while, month ago started struggling lot. that's when noticed mistake , uninstalled hplip through synaptic , following instructions on hp. installed 3.11.7, still can't print computer (my wife has windows computer works printer).

when run hp-setup can't find printer automatically (the connection through wifi network). terminal shows error "unable send broadcast dns packet." however, when input ip address of printer, setup wizard finds it. far good. then, in final screen of wizard select option send test page , error printer busy. whenever run hp device manager, printer shows hourglass icon, means busy. far can tell there no jobs in queue (i can print wife computer, said).

i've run hp-check -t, output says @ end "no errors or warnings"
can ping printers ip address no problem. can see printer status on browser entering ip address in address box. don't know else do.
