Thread: Is there a way to watch password-protected asf stream?

there asf video stream i'd watch, access requires username , password. on windows machine (not mine) can enter address of stream in windows media player, , produces interface dialog, can enter username , password. on linux machine, however, can't find single video player capable of offering interface dialog. tried vlc, got following error:

and messages box informs that:

i tried modify stream address include both username , password in it:

http://my-login:my-password@wms.the_rest_of_address

didn't help.

tried mplayer (with kmplayer frontend) - nothing.

so, possible play password-protected stream video on linux machine?

(just in case, use opensuse 11.4 kde, hope that's not terribly important)

mplayer able add in username , password using -user <username> , -passwd <password> options although admit have never used these options mplayer .
