Thread: Resolution problem

hello guys, using kubuntu on desktop, ubuntu on laptop. found problem in kubuntu. when set resolution 1024x768, run perfectly. when trun off computer , start resolution auto change 1600x....! tried many time set best resolution 1024x768, auto change. monitor crt, 17 inch . please

if using nvidia card, you're using nvidia-settings set res. unless run root, changes won't persistent. if you're not using nvidia card, read on.

while prefer use xorg.conf setting resolutions, i'll list xrandr way, seems current popular method (it have advantages).

i'm going assume (shame on me) since can set resolution via gui, graphical mode exists. in case type in:

code:
xrandr -s 1024x768_60.00
if worked, can add command script boot-time execution:

code:
kdesudo kate /etc/kde4/kdm/xsetup
it ask password, open file kate. once there, need add command used, save , close.

reboot , try.

edit: changes made after realzippy's advice (man made shorter post!)
