Some help with my background

hey all. started on dreamweaver , i'm having trouble background. made myself in adobe program , saved in jpg, tif , psd. image 4000 x 4000 px. dw doesn't tif , doesn't accept it. now, psd , jpegs, takes them , makes them background zooms in rediculously , bloats image.

browsers have no ability read photoshop .psd file, should using .jpg, .gif , .png best cross-browser rendering.

 

also, 4000 x 4000 pixels huge webpage. should never more 2000 pixels in either direction , large image online purposes. background image on 200kb large. take 1 minute single file download on 56k modem.

 

to optimize image in photoshop, open image , hit ctrl + shift + alt (or command) + s save web.

 

click 2-up tab , take @ file size , speed of download image. can click bottom image in 2-up , move quality slider higher or lower quality. affect file size , load time. choose lowest quality setting doesn't make image degrade far , click save.

 

edit: dw isn't zooming in @ all, displaying file @ full size (without reduction in size using in photoshop). if using ps view entire image @ once, zoomed out several steps , viewing @ 16-25% actual size. 23" monitor 1920 pixels wide , 1080 tall, 4000 pixel image needs reduced 22% or in order view entire thing without scrolling in ps.
