it's bit cryptic. computer hd home put lot of thought these partions. iloe math , figuring out!!

main concern. want dual boot in linux , windows. no prob @ all. iv'e triple booted (with rubbish mac os) on machine before. prob dropbox syncing , file systems. know windows can't access ext4 (correct?)

linux seems access ntfs fine. guess i'm wanting more information on....

mainly, problems of accessing read/write 4-5 ntfs partitions ext4 linux os boot on regular basis.



consideration might provide insight on

external video media (videos didn't make) = extvm
external audio media (audio files namely classical music , audio books didn't record)

fyi external folders considerably small in size internal oens (i.e. have more recorded audio , video did myself of external type)

it's 1tb of data (abou 600-1000gb) backed extensively. , space application installations!!

extam example external audio media (audio media didn't create). have more recordings done me, say, audio books read else differentiate between those.

partitioning makes sense have set "quotas". know windows 7 has quota system users doesnt' seem specific enough.

have expeirenced copious small partitions headache. think limited partitions 4 or make sense.

i've spreadsheeted , tabulated ways divvy 500gb every day (multiple times day) right when wake past 2 weeks! got computer , freezing haha!!!

after having many partitions (becaue of triple-boot on crap mac loathe) , other reasons, seems nice have 1 big partition or @ least few large partitions.

dislike excessive use of folders.

current set userdata apps on seperate partition (distinct win 7 system less 19gb , runs fine).

things never larger size (like server backup) makes sense have separate partition.

may do

new process =newp (all new stuff. reformat every 2 weeks , data off of it; function scratch , download disk

, although haven't done in forever may put (system, user data, )

apps , sys seperate

may cluster media files (video , audio, of 4 distinct types. external , internal). on same partition 1 partiton focused on know full.

problem clumbing media files , apps on same partition installs tons of 1 kind , out of balance (too many apps, not enough room audio , vido files, or vice versa).

bollocks.

may stuff on 1 main , new process, linux, , sys on seperates.

way, no offense, think "just user folders" 1 of retarded, hackneyed, , stupifyingly dull answers can provide. it's trite being "go vet' when asks question cat (another type of forum see set of useless answers repeatedly).


take long time explain details of organization system. it's been years in works of refining , debugging (with lot of different operating systems , whatnot). transcends applications , cross-platform (meaning it's not bound application, wya organization system should be).

few insights

orig original file obviously. have backup. if isn't orig it's backup of orig.

apps not orig because they're implementations of installers. installers (if not online) local disc images , stored in own installers_orig folder. may partiton, though, that's unrelated 500gb.


have hink use for. like, nice have internal media (that recorded audio files) , have set amount (with partition. change around if wanted. new media files.

folders 1 folder balloon , take space of other things.

partitions quota-setting , obvious necessary primary partition distinctions (like ext4 linux , ntfs windows different file formats). partitions ntfs though filesystem.


i've spent lot of years consolidating types of data have. again, prob should (and sort of have) written book on this. "called popp: progress , organizational productivity principles". if want more detailed info, should buy book!"


basically, think clumping videos (that didn't make , own creations, exmample) in /home/username/'my videos" 1 of idiotic things can because external video files not yours, didn't make them, burnt them, downloaded them, or purchased them. keep distinct.

i'm computer scientist. may not know as other peopel details of read-write location sectors, want leanr lot more.

have on 20,000 pictures i've taken have hteir own format string naming , clear hierarchy in 3 folders.


guess have setup too......idiosyncratic, odd, advanced, intelligent, insanely complex, peculiar, and/or different insight partitioning.



i've bene scrutinizing didn't work.

on 1tb had

random 20gb (prob intended use linux, never got around that).

300gb scratch pfftt terrible 1 extendd of logical , terrible because used 40gb max of it.

meanily 200gb used installers, , "external" data , had usage , should have been distributed better.

if had 1tb internal instead of 500gb know how partiton (and using folders 1tb assuredly way of imbecile).

think i'm stressed won't have neough space on 500gb every core bit of useful data i'd want i'll have selective, fine.

i'm certianly compleaining, it's hd space i've ever had on laptop , overjoyed.


when rig built have 3,820gb of data (but <1tb of original data, of backups have calendared safe system (if didn't have calendared safe system) insanely anxious,but structured data protection awesome.



it's more "glee" having hd space on laptop , wanting avoid probs. want start transfering , installing things onto envision in few weeks wishing had small linux partition or small seperate scratch partition or something.

think 1 of hte useful things learned forum subsequent partitions have lower read-write time (or maybe access time) because of location on disk.


idk organization system take many pages explain thoroughly. brainstorming.


anyways, if iteration of said agree many small partitions without specific use results in wasted space. 1 block-headed partition obtuse , crippling can (with multiple operating systems, , having set scratch disk can reformatted deal fragmentation lot of read/write it).

1 though had iv'e bene using linux , windows on mac (which loathe) on past year. realized lot of partitioning may have bene because of that. still need learn lot more boot managers/loaders!! know grub linux. what's windows' version , crap mac's version?

being on computer can have windows or linux (optionally 1 os) pretty delightful.


i'm trying discern how of multiple partitions emotionally disconnecting mac crap. soem of was. , needed @ least 2 partitions run non-mac os. anyways. tempted jsut use raw 1 partition think i'll want more options later.


don't understand obsession folders. if posts in partition thread on "hard drive" category, don't want here "folders". imbecile can make folder , i'm (no offense) bit insulted offer advice , genuinely think has value.


said. don't see how sharing details of organizing system provide insight how should parititon.

had huge sequence of threads few months ago partitioning aforementioend 1tb. guy poped on thread had on 3tb , 14 partitions. joyful , helpful , sparked ideas (although though of partitioning scheme ludicrous).

think more 8 partitiosn insane, again coudl partition 1 drive 8 (if multiple terabytes) combining internal , external see how total partitiosn coudl exceed 14.



umm i'ts bascially tinkering. last partitioning partition distinctiosn designed (it's keep scratch disk separate. suggested on forum , made tons of hard disk health sense). in various partitioning schemes size of scratch disk, example, uselessly small (it fill , download errors or read-write errors) or large, , unused.

maybe i'll post decided on later similar brianstormed.

btw. wrote response sloppily (but whole-heartedly ) lot of spelling mistakes , didn't mean offend folders suggestion it's can go shift+cntrl+n * 10, , have ten folders , ten seconds. that's not complex , not useful response. think comparable suggestion inquring how part of blueprint house designign , then....someone goes...oh use apartment or something....or building computer , goes, oh pre-built one. that's not thread about. entire thread partitions.

wasn't intention cryptic live in computer. partitioning (these) hard drives building home. have been refining (extremely efficient , intelligent, admittedly idiosyncratic , possibly eccentic, makes sense me) organizing system data many years , it's undergone lot of revisions , refinements. brainstorming.
should designing operating systems because that's amount of detail i'm going into. disgusted pre-defined folders in "home" folder. need learn more boot loaders, read-write access of hard drive data etc. sfh filesystems.
