i new convert ubuntu , trying load lotus notes - obstacle waving goodbye windoze. have read lots of posts of them speak geek way beyond newbie me. far have managed download 413 meg file ibm, have tried convert deb file using alien far got. doesn't want install there on. there out there can explain step step in non-geek how can carry on there. /home/downloads has file czj1men.tar , folder czj1men appeared after running alien. contains files downloaded because of posts called them - notes_libs_karmic.tgz , libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0_2.22.0-oubuntu_1.

i figured out , did:

sign on in ubuntu classic desktop. before start, guy suggests regard downloading lib files http://www.browniesblog.com/a55cbc/b...&comments#anc1 download file called czj1men.tar ibm's web page - big file 413m takes quite while. unpack tar -xvf. cause files appear .rpm extension. install program called alien. find in ubuntu software centre. make sure in folder rpm folders unpacked , run sudo alien -dcvi ibm_lotus_notes-8.5.2.rpm. step takes half hour while busy, locate , download file called notes_libs_karmic.tgz http://linux-aha.de/wordpress/wp-con...ibs_karmic.tgz. wait lotus notes complete install unpack notes_libs_karmic.tgz open terminal , type gksu nautilus. nautilus screen appears , here must careful because nautilus can cause grievious bodily harm. go folder 4 libs files unpacked. select 4 lib files - right click on them - go properties - click on permissions tab , change group , user read/write. copy these file in /opt/ibm/lotus/notes. close down click on applications-office , should see 2 lotus notes icons - lotus notes application support , lotus notes program launcher. hold thumbs , click on launcher. slow going first time patient , set per normal.
