Thread: Lost gui/taskbar etc in 10.04 server

i've no clue how happened because not messing (have not made configuration changes on server in several months), 1 day turned monitor on server , taskbar missing @ bottom (when minimized windows, animate minimizing couldn't see them). in system>preferences>appearances said clearlooks not work because parts of gtk+ engine not installed.

i've uninstalled , reinstalled nautilus, (sudo apt-get remove/install nautilus) , when try , startx goes black screen cursor, nothing else. can't figure out how cmd line without rebooting.

can post error logs or configuration files on request wouldn't know start without direction. appreciated.

completely remove , reinstall ubuntu-desktop package.
