Thread: Could not update .ICEauthority and gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256

two errors:

"could not update .iceauthority file /home/myusername/.iceauthority"

and

"there problem configuration server. (/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited status 256)"

i'm getting both of these right log gnome.

known bug, there don't seem clear solutions:

running ubuntu 11.04 encrypted home on system 76 lemur. teach me run unstable. nautilus broke after update. became unresponsive. believe specific bug:

anyway, tried

code:

dpkg --configure nautilus    package configured (or that)

so went , did a

sudo apt-get purge nautilus nautilus-data    sudo apt-get install nautilus

i know, stupid, couldn't think of other solution. got error message "could not update iceauthority file /home/myusername/.iceauthority"

well, no problem, think. i've had issues many times before of solutions online involve fixing user ownership , privs on .iceauthority file. make sure owner, , privs set correctly. finally, out of desperation, try

code:

chmod 777 .iceauthority

even then, same error!

find solution says delete file altogether , allow recreated, error continues. go file using before purged nautilus. error continues. nothing. appreciated. has been able solve this?





side note- quite angry myself, , ubuntu right now. should've thought more before moving off of stable, honestly, seems ubuntu's criteria unstable has gone usable few tweaks totally unusable.

used able run unstable on main machine without trouble. seems unstable being viewed more of testing , developing sandbox, there hasn't been announcement indicate change in philosophy, , ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download still redirects latest version default, if unstable. lot of software getting shipped out half-finished.

well, hell, guys! i've spoken few people, , know i'm not person has noticed trend. said before, very grateful if has more info problem. i'll check tonight, honestly, way things going, seems may have clean install of stable escape unity development treadmill. t(>___<)t

just ran same problem, succesfully changed login password. did restart, couldn't log in anymore.
need soon, please.
