Thread: Logs or Logging

hi guys,

using ubuntu 11.04 past few months , no problems. since weekend keeps freezing/crashing.

3 things happen:
1) screen freezes mouse doesn't move. (hard light on laptop not solid)

2) screen goes black if off laptop stay's turned on. doesn't respond keyboard/mouse events

3) screen goes black second/two , brings me login screen when log in if computer restarted closed.

there way me enable/view logs see happened?
had @ log file viewer not sure or should looking at.

try /var/log/messages

logs rotated, when /var/log/messages gets full, gets moved /var/log/messages.1 , /var/log/messages starts fresh, etc.

there's /var/log/syslog more thorough, /var/log/messages first port of call.
