Thread: Cannot find downloaded programs

i downloaded statistics program 'r' , java gui r. followed instructions , installed them via terminal window. cannot find them. programs go when install them in ubuntu (natty narwhal)?
may correctly assume entirely ignorant of computer languages; have used graphic user interfaces.

usually under programs>applications, sorted catagory , might able find in there, can not because that's not how particular program works. try starting threw terminal. start program through terminal type name.
