Pull a Copied Path out of a Clipping Mask?

hello:                                                                                                                level: newbie  os: win7 64bit  ai: cs6

 

 

i'm following tut at:

down under step #4 says copy (& paste) circle that's inside clipping mask , drag out of mask in order duplicate twice.

 

but, have no idea how tell rather i've pulled out of mask or even, actually, how go pulling out of mask

 

thus far i've copied , pasted in in front ... copying , pasting in front bring outta mask?

 

do need create new layer after i've copied , paste on new layer?

 

your time appreciated. i'm off continue search answer

cmd+x (with nothing selected) cmd+f , paste in front of masked stuff.

no need make new layer.

 

(if on windows read ctrl cmd in above.)
