Thread: I know nothing, running progams and single screens!
hi there! i'm pretty new whole ubuntu-scene.
i'm finding more , more appealing, love feeling that i'm doing something!
but, of course i'm running in problems.i did wireless working , felt real accomplishment. i'm having other problems. (i'm running kubuntu 11.04)
videos in general lag hell, on youtube , windows-partitions well. installed vlc, described on website. lagged as dragon(?)-player.
computer do suck. it's fujitsu siemens amilo li1718, has 2.0 ghz cpu , 128 mb ati-graphics card (xpress 200m). i'm not expecting wonders, not crap.
i'm experiencing problems getting screen working way want to. want 1 on laptop switched off , benq dispalying stuff. if doesn't freeze, keeps flickering time, it's annoying.
tried having benq primary screen, copy of original, while original turned off. looked if going work, nothing happened.
last not least want know if there's way run windows-installed software in kubuntu? wine answer? if so, work if program installed?
thanks, (and sorry if i'm being stupid here),
jacob
hi jacob . problems - can relate several of them cuz laptop sucks ( 1.8 mhz processor intel gfx ) . i've tweaked around ubuntu long enough make comparable xp in performance , think can yours same . let's tackle troubles :
1) vidoe lag - flash player quite heavy on resources , vlc on linux . flash player try tweak firefox settings - there several guides on net . video player - recommend smplayer . , try updating graphics drivers ati site - think have section linux drivers .
2)i'm not sure monitor problem better not here .
3) running windows software of kubuntu - wine 1 solution . there many other wrappers out there - cedega , playonlinux name few . depends on want run , or rather how effort willing put in make run . in respect , think wine more configurable .
running software that's installed , again depends on software . personal experience wine -some work , don't . can't know unless try .
know answers seem little vague . that's because don't know kubuntu . i'm answering based on experience kde desktop on lucid . tweaks mentioned should work .
i'll try search bit more these .
till ciao !
