Thread: bad sectors remapping

hi,

bad sectors know sectors on hard drive cannot written (due possibly physical damage). know there linux tools such badblocks , chkdsk on windows.

question: if run chkdsk /b on entire disk in windows - sectors marked "bad" under ubuntu well? understanding data specifies bad sectors located written in partition table file system knows not use bad sectors. intuition says if run badblocks on ubuntu , mark sectors bad - windows won't know until mark same sectors bad again using chkdsk because partition table ubuntu different partition table of windows?

has knowledge on how works?

i under impression drives identify , mark unreliable sectors. if have drive keeps generating them, i'll replace it.
