Thread: Building a faster NAS: AMD E350?
i know topic pretty popular, have more specific questions need answered.
own dns323 nas (fun-plugged) use upnp, file sharing (samba) , bittorrent client (transmission). upgraded internet speeds 50mbit/3mbit 1mbit/0.5mbit, didn't see big increase in max bittorrent speeds (1.2mb/s 1mb/s). tried seeded torrent on pc , got 6mb/s download while same torrent got 1.2mb/s. knew dns323 low end , expecting out of little toaster started shopping new nas come feeling might same results boxes cost twice as dns323.
decided price out budget build , found amd e350 board, 2gb ram, antec cube case w/psu , 2x2tb hdds (for total of 4x2tb hdd's). goes $400 after price matches.
question e350 enough horsepower max out dl speeds, handle raid 5 , upnp?
imo, yes.
'computer' have better results appliance-like nas (although lately i've seen ones).
example, have p4, 512mb ram server max download speed. brother has celeron dual core, 1gb can take full advantage of 1mb/s connection (that's 1 mega bytes per seconds).
thoughts,
regards.
